These Ashburn, VA homeowners had an old wooden deck and hot tub that had seen better days. The state of their deck meant that it wasn’t getting used, and the couple wanted something that was updated, function design and low maintenance finishes that felt like it matched the quality of their home.

After and initial free estimate to get an idea for budgets, the couple opted to do a custom design consultation with Dan, our company’s founder, to develop a plan that improved functionality and look of the deck while meeting the couples goals. “He came up with ideas we never would have thought of that really improved the design” they remarked.

The deck features a Trex Transcends floor, 3 toned trim with wrapped Trex trim stacked on a tan PVC with white lattice panels. These details create interest and depth to a traditional low maintenance deck finishes. Other features include an aluminum infill railings and low maintenance plant hanger. A custom access door in the lattice to access under deck storage, and joist tape to protect framing from rot.

The deck is a broken up into 2 levels deck with each area being large enough to include it’s own seating area and room for plants, grills, walkways and other furniture. The upper deck includes a table and chairs and grill area at the same level as Indoors to allow for easy inside to outdoor transition. The low maintenance aluminum railing infill that caries down a wide staircase to the lower level and continues to the ground to create a continuous graspable rail for those who may need it while maintaining an open feel and clear sight lines.

Lower deck features cascading stairs from secondary house exit. A large area for seating and plants and wide stairs to the ground that wrap around one corner of the deck. Because there was enough square footage to do so, creating a lower platform deck allowed us to eliminate the railing to keep the view from inside and from the top deck remains unencumbered, while also having an upper deck area with an easy indoor outdoor transition perfect for hosting, dinning and grilling.

Overall the homeowner is loving their newly transformed space, and getting plenty of compliments from neighbors and friends.
